NHL insider reports dead end solutions won't fix failed trade attempt

The Colorado Avalanche' season opener is tonight against the New York Rangers and the controversial player that everyone has talked about, all summer long, Matt Duchene will be in the lineup, as he has shown up for practices and preseason contests.

However, according to Mike Chambers, Duchene's chemistry with the team is a major concern and there is only a few solutions to solve the probleme. The Avalanche's relationship with the disgruntled center can only improve if the club wins... If they do, then the Avs’ star center "might someday forgive them for making him feel like an unnecessary asset for so long."

But Chambers adds that Joe Sakic "might be the only general manager in the NHL that believes the Avs have sufficient talent and depth on the blue line, though they did pick up defenseman Patrik Nemeth on waivers from Dallas on Tuesday."

We might see Sakic using waivers all through October to help boost his defense, but it might take more to eliminate chemistry concerns and to trade Duchene. The face of the franchise no longer believes in the club and the Avs cannot afford to finish last in the league, again!

“I can’t really say where his head’s at,” said defenseman Erik Johnson. "As long as he’s here, he’s part of our team and he has to play hard for us.”

“I can just speak from what you guys have reported. There’s not much else to be said because he’s here, he’s part of our team, and until he’s not there’s nothing else to talk about.”

It is strongly believed that Sakic will have to stop patching the holes on défense and will need to find a real solution to solve his team's biggest issues.
