NHL makes bold prediction on what 2021-22 season will look like!

Earlier today, NHL Deputy commissioner Bill Daly sent out a memo to all teams across the National Hockey League to let them know what was next in order to put a plan together for the start of the 2020-21 season. He mentioned that the league’s objective remains to start the campaign on January 1st, with the hopes of wrapping things up by April.

“Deputy commissioner Bill Daly sent a memo to the 31 NHL teams today saying negotiations have been continuing with the NHLPA and the league is hoping it will be able to make a recommendation to the governors Thursday. Daly wrote “the objective remains to start as early as Jan. 1.

"Daly added in the memo the NHL is hoping to complete the schedule before the end of April and get back on a regular schedule for 2021-22. Didn't say how many games would be played. The league also sent out a survey asking about local conditions and restrictions."

The point of ending the season in April and getting the playoffs rolling as usual is in the hopes that the campaign will not affect the 2021-22 season, which the NHL is hoping to get back to a regular season.

That’s a bold statement for the next campaign!

While we have no clue on what the 2020-21 season will look like, if it will get underway in front of fans or in closed off bubbles in specific cities, but the NHL seems adamant that it can no longer impact the future of the league.

And while they were hoping the same thing for 2020-21 when they announced that return to play plan back in June, we all know that the upcoming season has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and all its consequences.

We can definitely be hopeful for the future and hope that things will get back to the old normal we once knew, and clearly the NHL is looking for the same thing.

It remains to be seen if Daly’s statement today will come to fruition for the next calendar (while we still await the one for 2020-21)…
