The National Hockey League, via the NHL Network, has been steadily releasing it's lists for the top 20 players at any given position throughout the league and it has made for some pretty great discussions. I will say that they have received a ton of backlash regarding these lists because as you would expect there is a degree of bias involved in any subjective list of this nature.
This time around however the NHL Network has released two different lists when it comes to ranking the top 20 wingers currently active in the National Hockey League, and the reason for that is they have released a list based on fan-voting alongside their own rankings. I love the idea, it holds the fans feet to the fire, and there's no doubt that it will promote even more discussion than usual.
First let's take a look at the NHL Network's top 20 wingers.
1. Artemi Panarin - New York Rangers
2. David Pastrnak - Boston Bruins
3. Nikita Kucherov - Tampa Bay Lightning
4. Alex Ovechkin - Washington Capitals
5. Patrick Kane - Chicago Blackhawks
6. Brad Marchand - Boston Bruins
7. Mitch Marner - Toronto Maple Leafs
8. Mikko Rantanen - Colorado Avalanche
9. Jonathan Huberdeau - Florida Panthers
10. Mark Stone - Las Vegas Golden Knights
11. Blake Wheeler - Winnipeg Jets
12. Kyle Connor - Winnipeg Jets
13. Matthew Tkachuk - Calgary Flames
14. Patrik Laine - Winnipeg Jets
15. Max Pacioretty - Las Vegas Golden Knights
16. Johnny Gaudreau - Calgary Flames
17. J.T. Miller - Vancouver Canucks
18. Claude Giroux - Philadelphia Flyers
19. Vladimir Tarasenko - St. Louis Blues
20. Jake Guentzel - Pittsburgh Penguins
I can already tell that there are going to be quite a few fans who strongly disagree with some of the rankings here and one of the dead giveaways for that is the list of the fan rankings by the NHL. As you will see from the list submitted by the fan voting process, there are quite literally multiple players that break into the top 10 here that never even made it onto the NHL Network's list at all.
Here is the top 20 based on fan voting:
1. Artemi Panarin - New York Rangers
2. Nikita Kucherov - Tampa Bay Lightning
3. Alex Ovechkin - Washington Capitals
4. Patrick Kane - Chicago Blackhawks
5. David Pastrnak - Boston Bruins
6. Andrei Svechnikov - Carolina Hurricanes.
7. Mark Stone - Las Vegas Golden Knights
8. Mitch Marner - Toronto Maple Leafs
9. Mikko Rantanen - Colorado Avalanche
10. Travis Konecny - Philadelphia Flyers
11. Claude Giroux - Philadelphia Flyers
12. Brad Marchand - Boston Bruins
13. Johnny Gaudreau - Calgary Flames
14. Jake Guentzel - Pittsburgh Penguins
15. Jonathan Huberdeau - Florida Panthers
16. Gabriel Landeskog - Colorado Avalanche
17. J.T. Miller - Vancouver Canucks
18. Kyle Connor - Winnipeg Jets
19. Taylor Hall - Buffalo Sabres
20. Max Pacioretty - Las Vegas Golden Knights.
I doubt you will agree with either list, but which do you think is a better representation of the current landscape of the NHL?
