NHL Player Safety disciplines Jacob Trouba chopping down Vince Dunn.

New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba has just been hit right in his wallet. 

According to an official announcement from the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety, the veteran Rangers defenseman has just been hit with a whopping fine of $5,000 for his actions at the end of Saturday night's matchup between the aforementioned Rangers and the St. Louis Blues. In the final seconds of the game Trouba suddenly decided that he was the National Hockey League's unofficial lumberjack and began to chop at the legs of St. Louis Blues defenseman Vince Dunn. In spite of the fact that it looked like the Rangers were gonna let the Blues run out the clock in this one Dunn had attempted to skate into the Rangers zone for another scoring chance, and I suspect that this is what may have prompted the barrage of slashes from Trouba.

These were some pretty healthy whacks coming from Trouba as well and after the first few it looked like he was putting more and more force into each swing, eventually provoking a reaction from Dunn. Dunn, likely feeling the ill effects of those chops to his legs, had finally had enough after about the 6th or 7th slashed on the part of Trouba and immediately turned around and delivered a big punch to the face of the Rangers defenseman. You could call this a sucker punch I suppose but Trouba should have been ready for it given the level of punishment he was delivering to Dunn with his stick. The two boys were not done there however and even though the final whistle had already been blown both men dropped the gloves and proceeded to take some huge swings at one another.
