Ever since the NHL has paused the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus outbreak, fans have no only been wondering when action will resume but also what impact it will have on teams taking part in the postseason.

While several different playoff formats have been suggested, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reveals in his latest 31 Thoughts column on Sportsnet that a suggestion from an NBA friend could make sense for the NHL as well.

Why not hold the playoffs in a safe location?

“I don’t know if the NHL has discussed it, but an NBA friend says the idea of playing the playoffs at one or two locations that are declared “safe” first has been thrown around. More of a brainstorm than actual policy, though.”

It seems like this idea could make its way to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who does not seem willing to let all 31 teams in the postseason or even change the format at the moment.

Would he be willing to consider moving the postseason to a safe location once we know more about the COVID-19 evolution in the world?
