We are still left wondering when the 2020-21 season will get underway and we aren’t the only ones. Players still have no clue when they will be called back to action, when training camps will get underway and how the 2020-21 campaign will be held, with or without attendance, in all arenas or a limited few.

We get that the National Hockey League and its Players Association need time to put together the best plan possible for everyone involved, however, to make that happen they need to meet up and study all potential scenarios to get the season underway.

However, according to insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the NHL has decided to postpone an important meeting on all those questions with the Players’ Association, which was set to take place this week. As Lavoie put it, players have been left in a thick fog that we all hope will dissipate soon.

“The NHL has demanded a timeout,” Lavoie explained, translated from French. “The two sides won’t meet up this week, however they are keeping in touch. Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr are talking, looking to find solutions.
“The NHL simply isn’t ready to meet up with his players in order to present all scenarios for the 2020-21 season.”

When Bettman made his opening statement at the NHL Draft on Oct. 6, the commissioner mentioned that he was looking forward to the next campaign, and announced that it would get underway on Jan. 1st. However on Thursday, the NHL announced that it will postponed the Winter Classic and All-Star Game, which was quite a blow to fans that hoped the action would kick off with the outside game in Minnesota.

Fans have been extremely patient when it comes to waiting for significant news on the upcoming season, but what this tells us is that patience will be needed some more as the meeting will not happen this week.

Let’s not hold our breath, but let’s keep our fingers crossed.
