Karl Alzner signed a five-year, $23.1 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens on July 1. Many experts said this was a good signing for the Habs, since he could somewhat cope for the loss of Andrei Markov. But since they both have a very different skill set, it looks like Alzner might be a concern more than anything for the organization.

That is at least what SB Nation's Satchel Price believes. He had pretty harsh words for the Habs' new acquisition, and even went as far as to qualify the 28-year-old's contract as one of the most questionable deals of the 2017 offseason:

"Alzner got paid by Montreal after the Capitals willingly let him walk as a free agent. He has pedigree as the No. 5 overall pick from the 2007 NHL draft, and he’s been extremely durable, not missing a single game over the past seven seasons. But he’s not much of a scorer or a possession driver, so it begs the question of why the Habs thought he’d be worth nearly $5 million annually through his age-33 season."

The blueliner recorded three goals and 10 assists last season, and was not able to record a single point in seven playoff games with the Washington Capitals. In 591 career NHL games, he amassed 19 goals and 98 assists for 117 points and 177 penalty minutes.
