NHL reporter makes controversial comments on P.K. Subban!
Keystone Press Agency

While P.K. Subban may be a very polarizing figure, we have to admit he is certainly one, if not THE most flamboyant player of the National Hockey League. Everyone can agree that he is spectacular, and there's no doubt that his presence brings eyes and attention to the Nashville Predators. Whether the attention is positive or not is a whole other debate.

What is more debatable is his performances on the ice. TheScore's Ian McLaren made a pretty controversial comment about the 28-year-old blueliner in his latest article. While he acknowledges he played some good hockey last season, he believes Subban is simply overpaid:

"Here, then, are five players who must produce this season in order to render their cap hits more tenable."

"[Subban] did miss a chunk of games due to injury during his first season with the Nashville Predators, and he played some very fine hockey when healthy, especially in the playoffs. But when your cap hit is set to be $1 million more than reigning Norris Trophy winner Brent Burns, you need to rank higher than 13th in points per game, or at least be the most productive defenseman on your own team."

Wow, that was surely unexpected. Especially considering Subban recorded 40 points in 66 regular season games last year, the seventh highest production of his team. He also added 12 in 20 playoff games which, again, is good for the seventh place.

Did the star defenseman really deserve to be called overpaid by McLaren?
