NHL rookie Kirby Dach reveals Steve Yzerman grilled him about marijuana use.

Chicago Blackhawks rookie center Kirby Dach had quite the story to share this week when he joined Ryan Whitney and Paul "Biznasty" Bissonnette for the latest episode of the Spittin Chiclets podcast. Dach has barely had his chance to join the ranks of the National Hockey League but he dropped an interesting little surprise when he revealed that he had already had a fairly intense encounter with one of the game's truly legendary players, former Detroit Red Wings star forward Steve Yzerman.

Yzerman, a former player, is of course now the general manager of the Detroit Red Wings team that he played on for so many years and that means that he of course gets to sit in on the rookie interviews that take place prior to the National Hockey League Entry Draft each and every year. Dach was a part of that interview process prior to the 2019 NHL Entry Draft where he was selected in the first round (3rd overall) by the Chicago Blackhawks and it was there that Dach had the chance to meet Yzerman for the very first time. Dach only revealed he had the encounter however after the boys from Spittin Chiclets asked him whether or not he had faced any difficult questions during the interview process. 

Dach initially stated that everything had gone rather smoothly before a lightbulb appeared to go off in his head as he remembered the treatment he had received at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings legend. You fully expect the interview process to be an intense one, but according to Dach Yzerman made it even more so by trolling him about his use of recreational drugs.

"Yzerman in Detroit girlled me," said Dach.

According to Dach Yzerman repeatedly asked him about whether or not the young rookie "smoked weed" something that Dach denied every time he was asked. Things got really intense for Dach however when Yzerman claimed to have some inside knowledge regarding his use of the drug courtesy of some of Dach's former teammates.

"So are you sure you don't smoke any pot cause I had some of your teammates tell me you smoke weed," asked Yzerman as per Dach's retelling of the story.

Dach however made it clear that he had never smoked in spite of the claims from Yzerman, something that no doubt made it much easier to handle what must have felt like considerable pressure from an NHL legend. In fact Dach admitted that he started to sweat and that Yzerman was both an intense and intimidating guy, something that long time hockey fans will have no trouble believing.  Perhaps the best part of the story however was when Dach revealed that Yzerman had merely been trolling him the whole time.

"After I got out he was like 'Yeah I know you don't I was just f***ing with ya," said Dach.
