This would certainly get a ton of media attention.

NHL star could make his way back north of the border in rumored trade.

When it comes to trade rumors few experts are as well connected as insider Bob Stauffer is with the Edmonton Oilers organization. Stauffer is an employee of the team, he travels with the team, and he has often made bold and accurate predictions including commenting on how Taylor Hall could be traded last season prior to the deal becoming a reality.

Stauffer's most recent speculation involves a big name near the end of his career, former Calgary Flames forward Jarome Iginla, who Stauffer believes could be an important piece of an Oilers playoff run even at 39 years of age.

“Would I have time for Jarome Iginla? Sure," said Stauffer as per David Staples of the Edmonton Journal. "The Avs would have to take some money back, make sure. They’d have to take some short term money back. Why wouldn’t you have time for Jarome Iginla? How do you not respect Jarome Iginla. People say, Ah, he’s done, he’s finished. Never write off players like that. For a short timeframe guys like that can pull it together and they can bring it. If he were to waive (his no-trade), he’s a right wing, he’s a competitive player, he’s not the fastest guy, but he can still shoot the puck. He can one-time the puck…Hard not to like Jarome Iginla. If the opportunity presented itself, I think you’d have to look at it.”

It would be an incredible thing to see Iginla return north of the border, especially considering a playoff run for the Avalanche seems highly unlikely at this stage of the season. There's also of course the added story line of Iginla returning to Alberta which was his home for so many years, only this time with his former bitter rivals the Edmonton Oilers.

This move seems like one that would come closer to the trade deadline, so we may have to wait a while to see if Stauffer is once again on the money.
