NHL star says he's “pushing to be better” than McDavid and Crosby.

Huge statement from a very motivated NHLer.

This is certainly one way to get attention.

While Mark Scheifele may not be a household name due to the fact that he plays in a smaller market, the Winnipeg Jets forward certainly had a lot of hardcore fans paying attention to him last season when he went off for 32 goals and 50 assists for a total of 82 points in just 79 regular season games.

While a great many players would be satisfied with that level of performance Scheifele is not, and in fact he has set an incredibly ambitious goal for himself coming into the 2017-2018 National Hockey League season.

"Could have been better," Scheifele said with a laugh to NHL.com this week.

How much better exactly? Well Scheifele says he intends to push himself to be the very best in the league, better than the two biggest names in the sport right now, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, and Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

"Oh, yeah," Scheifele said. "There's no doubt in my mind. In this sport, you can't say, 'Oh, you know, that was great. I just hope to stay amongst them.' I'm pushing to be better than Connor, better than Sid."

It's a huge benchmark, and I for one can't wait to see what Scheifele brings to the table this upcoming season.
