NHL team may be in real trouble after deal for new arena falls apart.

There are rumors that a National Hockey League team may be in real trouble after a a proposed deal for a new arena facility has fallen apart seemingly overnight.

There appeared to be some major plans in the works for the Arizona Coyotes as they looked to move out of Glendale to set up shop in Temple and they appeared to have the support of Arizona State University, but that was not to be.

A damning analysis of the situation from azcentral.com:

A plan to build a new home for the Arizona Coyotes in Tempe is dead.

Arizona State University said in an email Friday evening that the university "has no intention of proceeding to sign a development agreement or an option to lease or any other agreement with the Coyotes."

ASU's master developer, Catellus Development Corp., had negotiated with the Coyotes since November on a development plan that would have included ice rinks for the Coyotes and Sun Devil Athletics.

ASU did not say in its statement why it was ending negotiations.

The Coyotes still have other options on the table but as you would expect there are already rumors of a potential relocation for the Coyotes floating around as they have made it clear they are putting an end to their relationship with the city of Glendale. 

There have been rumors that the Coyotes have had preliminary talks about potentially moving to Phoenix to share a building with the NBA's Phoenix Suns but considering how excited the Coyotes were about the Temple deal with ASU, those talks likely aren't very far along at all.
