Devin Setoguchi's time in the NHL may be winding down.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Los Angeles Kings have placed the veteran forward on waivers on Sunday.

After initial optimism coming out of training camp, things have not panned out for Setoguchi this season. Setoguchi made the Kings' roster after being invited on a professional tryout contract, but hasn't found his stride.

In 45 games this season, the 30-year-old has put up just four goals and 12 points on the year. The former 30-goal scorer had gone goalless in his last 18 games and the Kings decided to cut ties with him.

Prior to this season, the former first rounders' (#8 overall) last NHL opportunity was with the Calgary Flames in 2015 where he went without a point in 12 games.

The Alberta native has recorded 131 goals and 130 assists in 516 career games with the Sharks, Wild, Jets, Flames and Kings.

Given the Kings' decision, as well as his steadily declining production, this may have been his final chance to return to his former prowess. It seems unlikely he would catch on with another club at this juncture in the season.

His career in the NHL is now very much in doubt.
