That didn’t take long…

The Detroit Red Wings have decided to make everyone in Hockey Town happy this morning. The team will officially name Steve Yzerman general manager on Friday afternoon.

While Ken Holland is said to remain in place as senior vice president of the team, it looks like other clubs have something else in mind.

“No doubt Yzerman wants Holland to remain with the Red Wings. He and Holland are very close. However, sources say Holland has been contacted by other teams, including Edmonton and Seattle,” TSN’s Darren Dreger reported.

Holland has been general manager of the Red Wings since 1997, guiding the team the three Stanley Cups and four President’s Trophies during his tenure.

The Edmonton Oilers are still searching for a replacement in the front office since firing Peter Chiarelli back in November. While they could look at Holland as a great option, Dreger believes Holland has withdrawn his name from consideration.

The new 32nd expansion team, in Seattle, is also looking for their first franchise GM. As mentioned several times before, Holland could be a top candidate for the position.

A new chapter in Hockey Town, and it seems like a new one for Holland as well.
