NHL to go against Crosby and Ovechkin to resume play

NHL superstars have mostly been quiet since the league elected to put the 2019-20 season on pause amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. However on Thursday, NHL superstar Sidney Crosby was joined by Claude Giroux, Marc Staal and Jordan Staal on a conference call with the media to discuss the league’s current situation.

Later that same day, Ovechkin was also contacted to comment the situation. When asked how the NHL should resume the 2019-20 season - if at all possible, the two biggest stars, Crosby and Ovechkin had the same answer.

“I wouldn’t mind starting right at the playoffs,” Crosby said.

“I’d rather start in the playoffs right away,” Ovechkin said.

However, Darren Dreger explained on Insider Trading on TSN later that night that general managers and the league don’t want it that way. Most would prefer for the regular season to resume before starting the postseason.

“I can tell you that the National Hockey League is receiving proposals, literally on a daily basis, from NHL general managers and other club types around the National Hockey League. But, the general managers I’m talking to would support the idea of playing some form of a regular season before the playoffs. It doesn’t have to be the balance of an 82-game schedule. I mean, timing is going to dictate that. But even a two-game regular season or a five-game regular season before the playoffs, I think most GMs would support (that).”

This could help some teams still in the hunt to make a run for the playoffs. As the Staal brothers argue, we can see how this will be up for debate whenever we get close to getting hockey back.

“Screw the Rangers, let’s start playoffs right away,” Carolina forward Jordan Staal said with a shot at his brother and Rangers defenseman Marc Staal, who was also on the call.

“It’s hard to determine what’s fair, someone is always going to be pissed off about it. Whatever is decided, let’s hope it’s best for the Canes.”

Let’s hope it’s been for everyone involved, especially the fan waiting for the game to return.
