NHL veteran forced to retire and gives new career a shot!

There is nothing worse than having to quit when you feel it isn’t your time to go yet.

This might be happening to veteran defenseman Marc Methot, who played in a combined 45 games over the last two seasons with the Dallas Stars. It hasn’t been easy, and it might now be getting harder now that he could be forced to retire at 34 years old.

Methot has battled nagging injury issues in his left knee and, seeing that he’s been sidelined for most of the past two years, no NHL team appears to be interested in the unrestricted free agent this summer… Retirement seems to be coming sooner than he wanted, especially now that Methot underwent a cartilage replacement surgery last month that will extend his on-ice absence even further.

In an interview with Le Droit, the veteran blue liner admitted that his NHL career might be over and is now looking at other options. He is trying out the microphone on the air of Ottawa's TSN 1200 today along with Steve Lloyd, per Marc Brassard of Le Droit

This is probably not the way Methot wanted to go out, he who hasn’t hoisted the Stanley Cup during his NHL career. He is just a few years removed from being one of the league’s top shutdown defenders, as he was with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators.

In 624 NHL games, Methot has posted 22 goals and a total of 123 points, along with 380 penalty minutes.

We will have to stay tuned on TSN 1200 to see how his NHL radio analyst career turns out. If it all works out, it might be the final thing that pushes him to retirement.
