Edmonton Oilers forward Zack Kassian has officially been subpoenaed to appear in a Montreal court later this year for his involvement in a 2015 vehicle accident in which the driver, 22 year-old Alison de Courcy-Ireland, is being charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm.

The incident occurred on October 4th, 2015 not long after Kassian was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Brandon Prust. While Kassian was not the driver at the time of the incident, he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and subsequently voluntarily checked himself into the NHLPA’s substance abuse program. Weeks after completing the program Kassian was traded from the Habs to the Edmonton Oilers, where he has re-established his NHL career.

It’s unclear when exactly Kassian will be summoned to court, but proceedings are expected to begin in November, 2017 which would obviously conflict with his commitments to the Oilers and the 2017-18 NHL season.
