Late yesterday evening a 30-year-old religious extremist attacked an officer and innocent bystanders in the city of Edmonton, leading to police labelling the event as a terrorst attack. The suspect first rammed through a police barricade outside of an Edmonton Eskimos CFL game at Commonwealth Stadium, sending one officer flying through the air. The suspect then left his vehicle, repeatedly stabbed the officer and then fled on foot.

Shortly thereafter the suspect was found behind the wheel of a U-Haul rental truck when police gave chase. The suspect reportedly chose to speed away from police while attempting to deliberately run down pedestrians and innocent bystanders. Thankfully no one, including the officer who was hit and stabbed, was killed as a result of the heinous attack. Police have confirmed that the suspect had a history of reciting Islamic extremism and that an ISIS flag was found in his vehicle.

Several NHLers have come out on social media, weighing in on the tragic event.

Oilers legend Ryan Smyth was the first:

The Calgary Flames also came to the support of their provincial rivals:

The most controversial stance however, may have been the one put forth from Arizona Coyotes forward Max Domi:

Pretty safe to say that Domi is not a fan of Canada’s current immigration policy. What’s your take? Is he out of line with his comment? Or is he just calling it like it is?
