Nick Schmaltz might need to overcome an old habit.

When great power comes great responsibility!

Recently promoted on the second line, centering Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin, Nick Schmaltz might need to overcome an old habit.

With Artem Anisimov injured for the next month or so, Schmaltz has been gifted another shot centering a line in the NHL.

Fresh off a 12-game stint in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs, Nick Schmaltz knows that he needs to put the puck on net himself.

Easier said than done for a guy who’s made a career as a playmaker. Even more when you're pivoting a line with two guys who sniped 46 and 30 goals last season.

His teammates and his coach know “Schmaltzy” has a great shot, but they’re still trying to find ways to make him use it more often. The 21-year-old comes complete with fantastic speed and a great hockey sense, and these are the reasons he has been so successful making his way up to the NHL level. But he seems to lack confidence when he's in the slot, he looks like he can't unleash a quick wrist shot. Like it's not even on his mind.

He has 6 goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 49 games in his rookie season with Chicago.

All he really needs to do is shoot more, and the results will follow. His teammates believe it, his coach believes it. Now they just need to get Schmaltz to believe it too!
