Nick Kypreos suggests BOLD trade for Maple Leafs

This would be a huge gamble for Kyle Dubas.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are comfortably in 2nd place in the Atlantic Division as they split up for some much-needed time off during the NHL's All-Star Break before returning to action on February 10.

And prior to this season, general manager Kyle Dubas certainly raised eyebrows everywhere with his decision to completely overhaul the goaltending department, bidding goodbye to Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek while bringing aboard Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov.

Aside from some injury concerns for Murray, the pair of 1st year Leafs goaltenders have performed well enough to make fans and pundits alike believe that the move has paid off - at least for now. But what if Murray's injury issues become a bigger problem as we head closer to playoff time?

According to Nick Kypreos in a recent article for The Toronto Sun, Dubas would be wise to consider going even bolder in form of looking into acquiring either Thatcher Demko from the Vancouver Canucks, or even Juuse Saros from the Nashville Predators. His reasoning includes that both net minders are under the age of 30 and are also under contract at reasonable rates for the next few seasons.

Take a look at the excerpt:

"The alternative is to run a full audible and go much bolder in net.

If you feel you’re still truly exposed with the unpredictability of Murray and an unproven playoff performer in Samsonov, who still might not be ready for prime time, then you push for Vancouver’s Thatcher Demko or Juuse Saros in Nashville. Many believe Saros will be available when the Predators finally slip out of playoff contention in two or three weeks. Both are 27 years old and locked into extended contracts with very reasonable $5-million (U.S.) cap hits.

Either one could easily end the Leafs’ goalie controversies for the next few years. And more important, either one could boost team confidence that goes beyond anything Murray or Samsonov can provide."

Leafs fans, do you think that Dubas needs to go even bolder in net if Murray proves unhealthy enough to be relied upon?
