Are talks heading in the right direction though...?

Trade rumors have been linked to forward Kyle Turris, who has yet to agree to a contract extension with the Ottawa Senators. But the team GM Pierre Dorion is not worried about, and does not want fans to be either.

"We're really working hard - both parties - towards a contract and I think the way that Kyle has played over the first three games of the year, especially (Tuesday night) getting that (shootout) goal right under the blocker side almost under the bar shows us that Kyle is a special player for us," Dorion said to TSN's Darren Dreger. "To us, there's no panic, there's still eight months before he's a UFA so we have a lot of faith that we can get something done."

"It's been heading in the right direction since started the talks."

According to several recent reports, Turris is seeking a seven or eight-year term and the Senators are not looking to sign the 28-year-old into his mid-30s. Turris could hence become one of the hot commodities on the market ahead of the Trade Deadline.

Turris, who is in the final year of a five-year, $17.5 million deal he signed back in 2012, recorded a career-high 27 goals in 78 games with the Sens last season. He added four goals and six assists in 19 playoff games.

However, the contracts puzzle is ahead for the Senators, who reportedly have $59 million in salary committed to the 2018-19 season and still need to figure out who of Mark Stone, Cody Ceci, Johnny Oduya, Chris Wideman, Fredrik Claesson and Turris deserve new deals.
