Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin will not need to undergo surgery for his broken right hand.

He suffered the injury after taking a slapshot to the hand in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

As reported by NBC Sports, Dumoulin could not be any happier.

“It was tough to play with it, but obviously everybody had injuries,” Dumoulin said. “It’s all healed up now. They were deciding on surgery or not at the end of the season, but doctors saw a little bit of healing. We gave it about three weeks, and I kind of have been testing it out the last week. I’ve skated, and there have been no problems. I’m happy about it.”

The news comes at a great time, having just recently agreed to a six-year, $24.6 million contract.

Considering the numerous injuries sustained by Penguin players during the 2017 playoffs, having Dumoulin healthy will be greatly welcomed.
