After their 5-2 defeat yesterday versus the San Jose Sharks, the Montreal Canadiens now sit at the bottom of the NHL standings with a 1-4-1 record, having even the most optimistics feeling a sense of urgency before this hole becomes impossible to crawl out in time to make the playoffs.

It is not a surprise to hear reports that Marc Bergevin has been seen himself scouting the New York Islanders 4 times already this season while Habs fans are hoping for a shakeup to have the team back on the rails.

With an unprecedented 9 million dollars budget to acquire an impact player, he could afford to take a big salary in a deal.

According to former NHL scout Gant McCagg, Bergevin would not have one but TWO Islanders players on his radar: Superstar John Tavares and 25-goal scorer Brock Nelson.

To add fuel to the fire – Habs’ GM Marc Bergevin has been spotted at Islanders’ games recently..and I don’t think it’s because he’s looking to add Cal Clutterbuck or Shane Prince to the lineup.
Best bets are that Brock Nelson, and yes, Tavares are the main targets of his visits.

The question now is what would be the cost of acquiring one or both players and if the Habs GM will be willing to pay the price before it is too late.
