Nylander focused on “playing simple” in Bruins series

Willy says he plans to out wait the Bruins to “get a feel for the game”. Not sure I like this idea…

There’s no other Toronto Maple Leafs player this season who has received as much criticism as William Nylander. And that’s saying a LOT for a team that has Jake Gardiner on its roster, but I digress…

Nylander, of course, withheld his services until the 11th hour, signing just minutes before the December 1st deadline. Since re-joining his team, he hasn’t made quite the impact that he had in past seasons. After back to back 60+ point seasons, Nylander put up just 27 goals in 54 games with the Leafs this season. Ouch.

So… what’s Willy’s plan for tonight’s game against the Boston Bruins? Keep it simple.

"I think playing simple is a good way to start the series. I think after a little bit we'll get a feel for how the game is being played out there and then we'll have more space."

Not gonna lie… I understand what he’s saying here, but I’m not sure I agree. You can’t just wait to “get a feel for the game” when you’re playing against the Boston Bruins. You have to come out, pepper them with scoring chances and silence their home crowd. There won’t be ANY space, Willy. This is the Stanley Cup Playoffs…
