Nylander gets roasted following Leafs' elimination!
Twitter

You’ve seen the blame being passed around since Tuesday night, ever since the Toronto Maple Leafs were once again eliminated at the hands of the Boston Bruins in a Game 7 showdown in the first round series.

Head coach Mike Babcock has been singled out as the main reason why the Leafs fell flat, while he quickly blamed underperforming defenseman Jake Gardiner and suspended pest Nazem Kadri for the team’s loss.

There is so much blame to go around in Toronto that we knew it wouldn’t take long for fans and pundits to blame another player for the Leafs’ early playoff exit.

On Wednesday evening, it was William Nylander’s turn…

Host Michael Landesberg pointed out that the Maple Leafs were better off during the whole contract impasse back at the start of the season on the air of TSN1050.

He notes that the Leafs had the second best record in the NHL, after he signed, they had the 17th best record in the NHL.

Nylander was criticized for a good part of the rest of the season after he signed his lucrative contract. He collected seven goals and 27 points in 54 games in the regular season, and posted a goal and two assists in seven playoffs contests.

Disappointing...

Some fans have pointed out that the Carolina Hurricanes, who just beat the defending champions Washington Capitals last night, were looking to acquire Nylander and might have sent a significant piece in return that could have made the difference for Toronto this time around against the Bruins.

Brett Pesce, the defensemen who was mentioned more than once as a potential return for Nylander in Carolina, has collected three assists and a +2 rating in seven games so far in the postseason.

Fans and pundits will keep blaming players and coaches in Toronto but the fact of the matter remains: the Leafs are off golfing while the Bruins will face the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first game of the second round series tonight…
