O'Reilly comments on possibly becoming the next captain of the St. Louis Blues.

Unquestionably the biggest move of the offseason thus far has been the departure of St. Louis Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo and his subsequent signing with the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Most of the talk surrounding that move however has been in regards to how the move will impact the Golden Knights, and rightfully so. The move had far more financial implications for the Knights than it did for the Blues, who would go on to sign former Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug at a much lower cap hit of $6.5 million, something that would eventually result in the trade of former Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt.

The move however will also have a lasting impact on the St. Louis Blues and one of the topics quickly gaining steam as the start of the 2020 - 2021 National Hockey League season draws near has been the subject of who will wear the "C" as the Blues next captain. Pietrangelo served as captain over the last four season, taking over the role from former St. Louis Blues forward David Backes, and has obviously left the role vacant now that he is no longer with the team.

 On Saturday Blues forward and Conn Smythe Trophy winner Ryan O'Reilly made an appearance on SiriusXM Satellite Radio when he was asked about the possibility that he would be chosen as the next man to lead the Blues locker room. O'Reilly was quick to mention that he would be honored to simply be in the conversation, and went on to describe what a vital role Pietrangelo played as captain of the Blues in recent years.

"It would be an honor if it does happen," said O'Reilly. "I think it is such a privilege anytime. You look at the other guys now that we have on our team and there are a handful of guys that could easily wear and do a great job with it. So be amongst that and a part of it is definitely an honor. These last few years the amount I have learned from a guy like Petro, to see him go is sad. It is a business and it happens. But what he did for this organization, he was a huge why we won and why they have been so good for so long is what he built here. Whether I get the captain or not it is on myself now to continue that culture and keep competitive and keep giving ourselves chances to win and I'm very excited for it."

O'Reilly has certainly transformed the perception of himself as a player since his departure from the Buffalo Sabres, do you think he is a good choice to be the next leader of the St. Louis Blues locker room?
