Official: Jets sign 24 year-old goaltender

The Winnipeg Jets have announced that they’ve re-signed restricted free-agent goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to a one-year contract worth $2.25 million.

The 24 year-old goaltender was slated to have an salary arbitration hearing on August 1st, but as reported earlier this morning by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the two sides were able to come to a deal without the need for a third party.

In 56 games for the Jets during the 2016-17 season, Hellebuyck finished 26-19-4 while posting a 2.89 GAA and .907 Sv%. After a solid rookie campaign in 2015-16, Hellebuyck was thrown to the wolves last season and his play suffered as a result. With veteran goaltender Steve Mason now also on the team’s roster for the next two seasons, Hellebuyck will face some increased competition to earn his share of the goal.
