Official: Markov signs in KHL

The dream is over for Andrei Markov. The veteran defenseman admitted that a return to the NHL hinged on a new contract with the Montreal Canadiens alone. And, when he wasn’t able to come to terms with the only team he’s known for the past 17 seasons, it was time to move on to the KHL.

Markov made the news official yesterday afternoon announcing that he’d signed a two-year deal with Ak Bars Kazan, last season’s Gagarin Cup Finalists. The 38-year-old Markov will be expected to provide offense and run the team’s power play and his six goals and 36 points in 62 games for the Habs last season prove that he still has some punch left in his game.

What do you think about this news Habs fans? Bittersweet or just bitter? The man they call “Marky” gave a lot during his 17 years in Montreal and won’t be forgotten anytime soon. But, as the old saying goes, all good things must end. All the best, Marky!
