The Ontario Hockey League general managers are holding a virtual meeting today seeing that it is expected the league will announce a Feb 4th season start. TSN’s Darren Dreger made the report on Tuesday night, adding :

“Training camps are expected to open Jan 25th.  Eight team playoff also expected to be unveiled.”

The league halted its 2019-20 season on March 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the news seem to get OHL fans and players pumped for the upcoming season, the report only dampen the spirits of fans across the National Hockey League, who are still waiting to hear when the 2020-21 campaign will get underway. The NHL and its Players Association are reportedly hard at work coming up with different scenarios to ensure the upmost safety for the upcoming campaign.

On Friday, one of the scenario that was considered by the NHL to start the upcoming campaign with a bang was rejected. According to a source who got in touch with The Athletic, “the potential of starting the 2020-21 NHL season on Lake Louise in Alberta has been quashed.”

When commissioner Gary Bettman made his opening statement at the NHL Draft on Oct. 6, he mentioned that he was looking forward to the next campaign, announcing that it would get underway on Jan. 1st. However on Thursday, the NHL announced that the Winter Classic and All-Star Game will be postponed, which was quite a blow to fans that hoped the action would kick off with the outside game in Minnesota.

We hav no clue how to read into the OHL’s start date announcement, especially since we don’t know for now if bodychecking and full contact will be allowed on the ice.

Just a lot of unknown that are getting hockey fans very anxious…
