Oiler free agent wants to stay past this season

Zack Kassian has definitely had one crazy season. He was basically thrown out of Vancouver when he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for Brandon Prust. Then while with the Canadiens, he had another incident and was then entered into the NHL's substance abuse program.

After going through the process, the Canadiens wanted nothing to do with Kassian and sent him to Saint John's of the AHL. The Canadiens then traded him to Edmonton for Ben Scrivens. Kassian put in the work and the Oilers have given him a chance. He has so far made the most of that chance. He has scored 3 goals and 4 assists in his 28 games with the Oilers. He has been up and down the lineup but seems to have settled into a spot among the bottom 6 forwards. He has been bringing his physical play and his intensity every game and hopes that will help him be a part of the solution in Edmonton.

He has referred to the situation with the Oilers as a "good marriage". For Zack, he is hoping to turn that relationship into a new contract with the Oilers.
