Oiler's Talbot offered to Eastern team but the goalie refuses the move!

The Edmonton Oilers re-signing goaltender Mikko Koskinen seem to mean bad news for fellow netminder Cam Talbot, whose future with the team appears to be in limbo. And even more so since The Fourth Period's editor in chief David Pagnotta revealed on Tuesday that Talbot was offered in a trade to an Eastern Conference club. 

According to Pagnotta, who made the report public on his Twitter account, the "Oilers recently offered up Cam Talbot to a non-playoff team in the East, a club they’ve spoken to before about him, as part of larger deal." However, it seems that Talbot is believed to have deny the move because of his 10-team no-trade list. 

As reported by Jim Matheson, the team's insider for the Edmonton Journal, if the Oilers fall out of playoff contention leading up to the Feb. 25 trade deadline, they are expected to shop Talbot, who remains in control with his 10-team no-trade list. The veteran goalie is a pending unrestricted free agent, and Matheson reminds us there could be openings in Florida, New Jersey, St. Louis, Columbus, and Ottawa.

While Pagnotta did not name the East team that was offered up Talbot in his report, if we look at the clubs named by Matheson, either the Florida Panthers, the New Jersey Devils or the Ottawa Senators could have been the one to get the call. The Columbus Blue Jackets could be interested in landing the services of Talbot seeing that their pending free agent goalie Sergei Bobrovsky might be traded or could walk out this summer, however, the Jackets are in playoff contention and ready to fight for a longer postseason run this spring. 

GM Peter Chiarelli will need to keep busy if he wants to find the best deal for his club and one that will also please Talbot to accept to waive his clause. The general manager will also need to look out on the trade market to acquire a backup goalie if he gets rid of Talbot. Matheson points out that Pittsburgh Penguins’ Tristan Jarry could become a trade target while Brian Elliott and Cam Ward could be available in the UFA market.

Talbot has most of the power right now and Chiarelli has a lot of pressure from management not to look like a fool once again with a bogus trade... The goalie has a 9-13-2 record this season with a career-worst .894 save percentage and 3.27 goals-against average. Talbot has a $4.17 million cap hit and submitted his 10-team approved trade list last May, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
