Oilers claim veteran defenseman off of waivers.

A nice pick up for Edmonton.

Generally speaking, when a player is placed on waivers it's because his current team views him as disposable, but that doesn't mean that player can't be useful in another organization.

If you had asked me what the best fit for Adam Clendening was after he was waived by the Ducks, I would have listed several teams, but undoubtedly at or near the top of that list with be the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers have reportedly been working very hard to improve their defensive depth, and while Clendening isn't an elite talent, there's no doubt his veteran presence will help stabilize a shaky Oilers defense.

There are of course legit concerns when it comes to Clendening, he never actually played for Anaheim after being acquired in a trade with the Penguins, although Anaheim's deep blue line is likely responsible for that, it will be interesting to see just how much the former second round pick can contribute in Edmonton.
