Ten seasons and 11 years have passed since the Edmonton Oilers made their last Stanley Cup playoffs run.  Connor McDavid was only nine years old at the time, which is mind boggling to think about. He now has 100 points and has led his team to the playoffs in a very exciting year. The Oilers are in the second seed of the Pacific division with 103 points (47-26-9), though this match up will not be an easy win, as the San Jose Sharks were the conference champions last season.

In their last five games played against the Sharks, the Oilers have a 3-1-1 record.  According to statistics, Edmonton on average scores +0.27 more goals per game than San Jose.  They also have the better goal differential at 0.41 per game versus the Sharks’ 0.23 which is 0.18 higher.  Another positive stat on this round one match up is that the Oilers have a significantly better power play percentage at 22.9%.  These games will definitely be something to watch.

Here is the schedule to watch these round one playoff games:

Game 1 – Wednesday, April 12, 10:00 PM vs Sharks

Game 2 –Friday, April 14, 10:30 PM vs Sharks

Game 3 – Sunday, April 16, 10:00 PM @ Sharks

Game 4 – Tuesday, April 18, 10:00 PM @ Sharks

*Game 5 – Thursday, April 20, TBD vs Sharks

*Game 6 – Saturday, April 22, TBD @ Sharks

*Game 7 – Monday, April 24, TBD vs Sharks

In 2006 when the Oilers made the playoffs, they did indeed advance to the Stanley Cup finals. Can history repeat itself?
