The return is a hefty one tough…

The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly interested in the possibility of getting into the Tyler Johnson’s sweepstakes ever since the Tampa Bay Lightning forward has agreed to work with the team to get traded this offseason.

And it could happen sooner than you think. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Bolts are seeking a 1st-round pick as part of a deal for Johnson or Alex Killorn. The first round takes place in a few hours and a move could be done sooner rather than later.

The Oilers are reportedly interested and some pundits have pointed out that Johnson could agree to be moved to Edmonton, not only for the chance to play alongside Connor McDavid, but also because he could reunite with Kaimer Yamamoto, his connection from Spokane, as third centre or top 6 winger possibility.

Edmonton is set to pick 14th overall tonight, which could entice the Lightning to talk trade. While Tampa might also seek a prospect on the back end, it is not expected to see the Oilers giving up Evan Bouchard and Philip Broberg in the transaction.

Johnson currently holds a full no-trade clause in his current deal and will be the ultimate decider in a trade, however, his links to the Oilers could be a huge advantage for Edmonton and general manager Ken Holland.

The clock is ticking on a move and we will have to keep an eye on this.
