Unfortunately for them, past history has shown that Oilers fans are used to bad decisions and questionable trades in Edmonton.

As you can remember when the Oilers fired general manager Peter Chiarelli back in January, fans were quick to point out the bad signings and failed trades made and hoped things would be different once a new GM was named in Edmonton.

Fans were therefore thrilled when Ken Holland was hired as the new team’s general manager, however, the latest chatter points to a potential awful trade coming to Edmonton.

Here we go again…

Jason Gregor of TSN Radio 1260 Edmonton reports that Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning has discussed the idea of trading  for Milan Lucic with his staff this off-season.

It is believed that both teams see this potential move as a great way to motivate the two struggling players…

However, for fans in Edmonton (and in Vancouver for that matter) the focus remains on the hefty contract they each bring on and the disappointing production they’ve put up for the past years.

Eriksson posted 11 goals and 29 points in 81 games this season with a minus-11 rating. He carries a team-high $6 million cap hit through 2021-22 and has a full no-trade clause for this upcoming season. The veteran also voiced his frustration with the treatment he’s getting from head coach Travis Green.

As for Lucic, while fans would love to get rid of his $6 million cap hit in a contract that runs one season longer than Eriksson's - through 2022-23, the thought of swapping it for another heavy deal seems useless. Lucic scored six goals and posted 20 points in 79 games this season.

What is worse? Eriksson’s deal, Lucic’s contract or… the possibility of Holland making his first mistake in Edmonton?
