There was a ton of trade rumors circling around on Monday when the deadline was living its last moment of the 2018-19 season. One surely got the attention of all the Edmonton Oilers insider as they believe it was a ridiculous speculation.

It all started when Boston Bruins insider Jimmy Murphy tweeted out this information. The Bruins sportscaster is known to create controversy...

“Hearing again today that #LetsGoOilers and #LeafsForever discussed a large trade that would’ve seen defenseman Adam Larsson end up in Toronto and Connor Brown end up in Edmonton. There were lots of moving pieces and that’s likely why it didn’t happen. Could revisit in offseason.”

Murphy even hinted at the fact that talks could picked up once again in the summer.

However, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, Jim Matheson and David Staples of the Edmonton Journal are not buying it. Here were their answers to the speculation, shutting it down without hesitation.

“FYI. At no point was Adam Larsson’s name brought up in trade discussions at the deadline,” commented Stauffer.
“This is the same Larsson who came to Oilers for Taylor Hall? There better have been more moving pieces than Larsson for Brown. C’mon now,” said Journal’s Matheson.

Staples added some more to the controversial information on Wednesday, publishing an article on why the information was not credible. Oilers fans are surely relieved to hear this. And who knows? Maybe Maple Leafs fans are also rejoicing in the Oilers insiders' stands.

"As for Larsson for Brown, given the cap issues it’s hard to imagine that Toronto would even ask for such a trade, given their upcoming strangulation-by-salary-cap," writes Staples in one of his points in his latest Edmonton Journal article.

Staples notes that a trade involving Connor to the Oilers could always take place, however, it wouldn't include a player of Larsson's caliber.

"One would think that if the Leafs were going to bite on moving Brown to the Oiler, they would hope to acquire a cheap player still on his Entry Level Contract such as Caleb Jones, Ethan Bear or William Lagesson. Of course, the Oilers are also going to need cheap contracts next year. There’s no way I would personally move the mobile and promising Jones for Brown. I’d do Benning for Brown in a second, even as I don’t mind Benning’s game. But Brown fills a need for the Oilers at forward. He’s a good bet to get 10 to 12 goals next year and the Oilers can use a Bottom 6 forward like that."

The speculation just doesn't make sense...

What do you think?
