Edmonton Oilers veteran defenseman Duncan Keith was trending late on Tuesday and for the wrong reasons… That’s because the team announced ahead of the third period of the Oilers’ game against the Stars in Dallas that the blue liner would not return to the contest due to an upper-body injury.

It’s hard to say what happened to Keith. He didn’t take a shift in the final 12:48 of the second period appeared to injure himself after making a play at the blue line. He skated to the bench, slamming his stick. Check out the sequence where Keith's last shift came at 6:44 of the second period and lasted 28 seconds:

The thing is : Keith was already trending on social media because of poor plays during the game, which the Stars led 3-1 after 40 minutes. Fans criticized his play during the first two periods, and sounded almost relieved that he wouldn’t return tonight…

However, losing Keith long-term would be a blow to Edmonton. He can have off nights though he does bring experience and leadership to the Oilers’ lineup… Let’s see how serious this is after the game and in the coming days…
