In the past few days, multiple NHL insiders reported that Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli is set to make some big moves on the trade front, which makes the fanbase quite nervous. And with reasons!

According to Oilers Nation, "five of the worst trades in this era include the one for one acquiring Adam Larsson for Taylor Hall, while Jordan Eberle for Ryan Strome for Ryan Spooner remains another sore spot."

Now, as reported by Darren Dreger on Thursday morning on the air of Edmonton's TSN 1260, it seems more and more likely that the Oilers will be putting their 2019 first-round pick in play in order to acquire the necessary help on their roster. Dreger believes it might be needed for Edmonton to acquire a top-four defenseman ahead of the trade deadline and to ensure a long playoff run.

Oilers fans are cringing.

But wait, the Oilers management might have your back. Oilers Nation believes that management might not allow Chiarelli to make another trade.

"Management allowing Chiarelli to pull the trigger on another deal has to be scary considering the Brandon Manning deal just this season. Even the  Justin Schultz deal for the 91st pick was frustrating. This is because Edmonton has been looking for a player like Schultz every since. That theme permeates Edmonton Oilers culture."

Fans would be more than happy if Oilers Nation is right. Frustrations keep growing in Edmonton and it surely has affected the GM, who looks worn out in the Oilers' front office.

“Well, I don’t know if you guys watched that media availability,” asked Dreger when talking about the recent Oilers' trades on Leafs Lunch on TSN 1050 last week. “I just watched it online after the fact. And I was prompted to watch it online because a number of people reached out and said, ‘Man, Peter looks tired. He looks haggard.’

On top of that, some fans have decided to build a website entitled “Has Peter Chiarelli Been Fired Yet?” The Oilers general manager has failed to turn his team into a contender during his tenure, delivering a Stanley Cup Playoff appearance just once in his three and a half years with the organization.  They might be right to disallow him from making another bust at the deadline and who knows, maybe a change at the reigns is what is most needed in Edmonton...
