Oilers ready to sell well below market value on Nugent-Hopkins

The Edmonton Oilers showed their growing potential last season, making it to the playoffs for the first time in 11 years.

The team has showed how serious they are to remain a Cup contender, by signing key players like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisailt to massive contracts in the last few weeks.

This all sounds like great news for the Oilers fans, but it may be bad news for one of the team's players. According to Justin Cuthbert of Yahoo Sports, forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins may see his role changed and his ice time dropped because of the progress of Draisailt and the arrival of Ryan Strome. Cuthbert added that the Oilers are gearing up to "sell way below market value" on Nugent-Hopkins.

Good news for RNH though, David Staples of the Edmonton Journal however believes that the 24-year-old former first overall draft pick will be sent out below his market value since general manager Peter Chiarelli has not applied this dynamic since he took over the team.

RNH has stumbled through his NHL career up to this point, but a fresh start with a new team could jump start his career. The Oilers might look to trade him in exchange for some depth on the wing or on defense.
