Oilers refuse to offer PTOs this summer!

But it turned out pretty good last season… so what’s up?

Last summer, the Edmonton Oilers felt pretty generous, offering professional try out contracts (PTO) to four different players.

However, this year with new general manager Ken Holland, things will be different.

Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal has revealed that he does not expect to bring a bunch of players on PTOs at all. The team insider talked about this it was revealed that McMurray’s Scottie Upshall is ready for a comeback and could have hoped to get another PTO from the Oilers. Last summer, Upshall got injured during his tryout and might have want to pick things up where he left up, but that won’t be possible…

The Oilers did have success with a PTO last summer. Alex Chiasson agreed to one and ending signing in Edmonton. He recently inked an extension, sticking with the Oilers until 2021.

The other two players who got PTOs were Luke Esposito and Jason Garrison

This year however, it seems like the list will be much shorter. Inexistant.

The rumour was that the Oilers were interested in signing centre Derick Brassard to a contract, but the veteran player is reportedly asking quite the chunk of money for a new deal. On top of that, it seems like the Oilers won't get to test him out with a PTO if Holland refuses to offer such a deal this summer.
