The Edmonton Oilers have just made a great addition to their roster, now led by new general manager Ken Holland

On Thursday, coveted Swedish free agent Joakim Nygard decided to sign with the Edmonton Oilers, he who was also pondering the possibility of playing for the Calgary Flames.

At the beginning of his quest to play in the NHL, the Swedish publication Värmlands Folkblad reports that 20 NHL teams were after Nygard.

Nygard had the second most goals of any player in the Swedish elite league last year. The 26-year-old posted a career-high 21 goals and 35 points in 52 games with Färjestad BK in the Swedish Hockey League this season. He added five goals and 10 points in 14 playoff games.

The addition of Nygard sure sounds promising for the Oilers. He could slot in on the Oilers second line, with a centre like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Leon Draisaitl.
