The Edmonton Oilers are getting scrutinized for every move they pull and will be pulling this summer, despite the fact that new GM Ken Holland is now is charged.

So you can understand that some fans are getting anxious to hear from Oilers insider Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal that the team might be interested in bringing back a player they moved at the trade deadline.

On Tuesday night, Matheson took to Twitter to let hockey fans know that the Oilers should sign goaltender Cam Talbot in July.

Matheson explains that the Oilers need an experienced backup goalie for Mikko Koskinen and that Talbot might be the best option available on the free-agent market.

“Are all those other names out there--Reimer, Elliott, Mike Smith, McElhinney, Mrazek really better than Cam?”

First off, we know you guys will mention the best goalie available is Sergei Bobrovsky, but obviously considering his asking price and number of suitors, Edmonton seems very unlikely.

The Philadelphia Flyers, where Talbot was traded to at the deadline, also need to make a decision on their goaltending situation. Talbot was first brought in to support young goalie Carter Hart but didn’t see much action in the last weeks of the regular-season calendar in Philly.

Who knows? The controversial insider could have heard from the team and might be on to something…
