The Edmonton Oilers are currently in playoff contention and general manager Ken Holland will do everything in his power to make sure the team is finally back in the postseason this year.

To ensure they keep going and can compete in the playoffs, TSN’s Ryan Rishaug believes the Oilers will be seeking a third-line centre ahead of the trade deadline and wonders if they would make the blockbuster move to acquire Jean-Gabriel Pageau from the Ottawa Senators.

Pageau has been an instrumental player for the Senators this season, and it is believed the Sens will do whatever they can to re-sign him. However, if they can come to terms prior to the deadline, he could be on the move and the Oilers could be in the mix.

However, one thing is sure is that Pageau will command a first-round pick and Rishaug wonders if the Oilers would be willing to make that move. Edmonton has held a first round pick every draft year since 2006 and it would be a huge move from the team to part with it - we all know how lucky they’ve been at the draft lottery.

However, in better position this year, the Oilers could consider this move, unless like Rishaug, they prefer to acquire a shutdown third-line centre.
