Old habits die hard for Gretzky
Keystone Press

If you’ve been following the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup playoff run this season, chances are you’ve seen more of Wayne Gretzky in the past two weeks than you’ve seen in the previous two years. Back with the Oilers for the first time since the August, 1988 trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Kings, Gretzky has been front and center during Oilers broadcasts this postseason.

In his new role as partner and vice-chairman of the Oilers Entertainment Group, Gretzky admits, “it’s great to be a part of it again and i’m just truly having a lot of fun in it.” That fun is written all over his face with every goal the Oilers score. The television cameras have a way of finding Gretzky in the crowd during every goal for or goal against and some of his reactions have been priceless. Social media, in particular, has had a lot of fun with the screenshots of The Great One either groaning or cheering, depending on the play. Gretzky defends his groans however, stating, “There have been some moments were I probably didn’t look like it, but it’s been a happy time. I’m enjoying the ride. It’s been a long time.”

There’s no doubt that Gretzky loves the game just as much as ever, the emotion is written all over his face and Oilers fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
