29 years ago today, one of the NHL's biggest trades was announced. Wayne Gretzky would be traded to the LA Kings from the Edmonton Oilers.
This was a move that was made to penetrate the non-traditional ice hockey market in California. There were many pieces involved in this deal and it breaks down like this:
Gretzky, Mike Krushelnyski and defenseman Marty McSorley to the Kings for Jimmy Carson, first-round draft choice Martin Gelinas, first-round picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993, and $15 million. Game changing BLOCKBUSTER.
