One of the best defensemen available for trade has been dealt.

According to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman, the Dallas Stars have acquired defenseman Kris Russell from the Calgary Flames in return for forward Jyrki Jokipakka, forward Brett Pollock and a 2nd round pick. If the Stars make the Conference Finals, the 2nd round pick will become a 1st rounder.

The Stars were expected to be big players today, as they gear up for a long playoff run. With few defensemen available as rentals this year, the Stars have managed to address a hole that they desperately needed to be filled.

Russell has been one of the most solid D-men for Calgary in 2015-16, and the Flames dealt him for maximum deadline value. The 28-year-old has four goals and 11 assists on the year.

He is a pending unrestricted free agent at season's end, and will be due for a raise next season.
