It's been a pretty amazing summer for Phil "The Thrill" Kessel and he topped it off all with a big celebration with the Stanley Cup in Toronto, but notably absent were the faces of many National Hockey League players.

According to a report from James Mirtle in the Globe and Mail, Kessel had almost no players on hand and no players from either the Pittsburgh Penguins or his former team the Toronto Maple Leafs were in attendance.

Kessel has always been a very private person and it's likely he chooses his friends carefully, but there were two familiar faces as far as NHL fans are concerned. Former Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf, who openly defended Kessel from criticism from the Toronto media, as well as the newest Nashville Predator, P.K. Subban who reportedly showed up with his cowboy hat.

Phil was primarily surrounded by friends from Toronto at the party, and when it comes to player who has so often been the focus of criticism, it's hard to blame him for limiting it those closest to him.
