Ottawa Senators defensive prospect Thomas Chabot has been the best player so far at the rookie tournament in Toronto, according to hockey reporter Renaud Lavoie.

This should come as no surprise to fans who watched the blueliner play for Team Canada at the World Junior Championship in 2017. The youngster was named MVP of the tournament after finishing with 10 points – the most by any blueliner. He was dominant throughout, driving the play for the Canadians while making a name for himself in the hockey world.

Senators' captain Erik Karlsson, is expected to miss the start of the regular season, leaving the door open for Chabot if he can impress in training camp.

The 20-year-old spent the past four seasons with Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he had 45 points (10 goals, 35 assists) in 34 regular-season games and 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 18 playoff games last season
