How should the star player respond?

You may have noticed that the National Hockey League is looking to crack down on players cheating on faceoffs and stick infractions.

Well, one star player in the league seems to have issues adjusting to the modifications, and his head coach surely noticed.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will have to better adapt to the officiating, he who took two slashing penalties against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night.

“Too many slashing penalties,” Caps head coach Barry Trotz told the Washington Post. “Ovi took two. We’ve got to get that out of his game.”

Ovechkin may have trouble adjusting to the changes, but has not commented on them. Earlier this week, Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand ripped the new rule, saying it was a "complete joke".

“That’s how you ruin the game of hockey by putting that in there," Marchand said. "They’re going to have to do something about that because we can’t play this year like that. That’s brutal.”

We’ll see if the NHL sticks to its guns here and if players will adjust to the rules...
