Less than a week after the truck’s driver plead guilty, Sukhmander Singh, the owner of the transport truck involved in the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash has decided to do the same on Wednesday.

On Friday, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, the truck driver who caused the Humboldt Broncos crash that killed 16 people and injured 13 others last April was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Sidhu was an inexperienced driver who had only been driving on his own for a few days before he missed a stop sign and drove into the path of the bus.

Sixteen people were killed and 13 were injured when Sidhu barrelled through a stop sign and into the path of the junior team’s bus that was heading out to a playoff game at a rural Saskatchewan intersection last April.

On Wednesday morning, the owner Sukhmander Singh’s lawyer plead guilty on his behalf in a Calgary court to five charges.

According to media on site including The Globe and Mail, those charges included failing to maintain time logs for drivers, neglecting to ensure his drivers complied with safety regulations and having more than one daily log for any day.

Court documents showed the offences occurred between Jan. 1 and March 31 — prior to the fatal crash on April 6.

He was fined a total of $5,000. The trucking company is no longer in operation.

“This should serve as a warning to other owners of truck companies. This is a serious business, and we see why with tragic results,” said Judge Sean Dunnigan.
“This is the end of a very, very sad tale.”
